Wrestlers WithOut Borders home clubs aboutwwb membership legacy
The Legacy of WWB and it Members WWB Legacy Inventory

The push to create Wrestlers WithOut Borders stems from the 1990 Gay Games III in Vancouver. Club leaders from across the globe organized to develop higher, uniform standards and procedures for Gay Games wrestling tournaments to ensure mission goals of safety and inclusion. In 2006 our bylaws were revised to extend our mission beyond the Gay Games. We are an international organization of clubs and individuals working to promote the sport of wrestling and help our clubs provide safe and productive wrestling opportunities in accepting and proactive environments. Our members are involved in wrestling at every level from youth programs on up.

Don Jung Hall of Merit

The WWB Don Jung Hall of Merit was created to increase awareness and honor those whose work has been instrumental in the success of the WWB mission. In May of 2007, the Foundation Class was named in San Francisco at the Don Jung Memorial Tournament honoring five individuals representing the first Gay Games in 1982. This anticipated the selection of the Inaugural Class in 2008, made at the first WWB Cup held in Chicago. To learn about the inductees, visit the Hall of Merit.

Pride on the Mat: A Brief History

Pride on the Mat, written by Hall of Merit members Gene Dermody and Roger Brigham, discusses the history of wrestling at the Gay Games and the birth of the LGBT wrestling movement 1975-2018. There are many reasons why wrestling has had such an enduring allure and many obstacles our clubs have had to overcome. To learn about our history and the leaders who forged the way, click here. WWB Cup

The WWB Cup was established in 2008 as WWB's championship for non-Gay Games years. To mark the first event, Golden Gate's Don Jung Memorial Tournament was moved for one year from San Francisco, site of the first Gay Games, to Chicago, site of the last previous Gay Games, where it was hosted by Chicago Wrestling Club. Golden Gate was created in 1982 to host the first Gay Games; the Chicago Cyclones were created in 2005 to host the seventh Gay Games. See WWB Cup Results.

Gay Games Wrestling

Wrestling is the only sport that has been officially sanctioned in every Gay Games since their inception in 1982, and WWB and its member clubs have been integral to the success of past Gay Games tournaments. The Gay Games serve as the official WWB Championship Tournament every four years. See past Gay Games results.
