CMWA Freestyle Tournaments in April

The Costal-Mountain Wrestling Association, covering Marin, Sonoma and Lake Counties, is hosting 2 tournaments in the month of April in Santa Rosa. Johnny & Gene recommend these as opportunities to gain real tournament experience prior to going to Chicago. In additional to wrestling, there are also opportunities to help with tournament operations (timekeeping, pairing, officiating, score-keeping)

GGWC Athlete Subsidies and Travel Plans Finalized

22 members applied for, and qualified, for a subsidy to participate in Gay Games. Because some members opted out of part or all of this offering, it made it possible to provide generous grants to others on the team. The team will be staying at the Chicago Hilton, the same hotel serving as the FGG headquarters. Individual flight Itineraries are have been posted

General Membership Kick-off Meeting

Overview

This was the first of several planned meetings to discuss participation in the 2006 Gay Games

Finances
Gene & Johnny discussed the status of the club's finances, and projected budget
over the next 16 months. To expand on our existing fund-raising activities, we are
soliciting new fund-raising ideas including small-business sponsorships and commerative
photo books and calendars. We need tomaximize sales of our existing inventory of logo
wear before we can consider any new productpurchases and additions to the product line.
Our current estimates project that subsidy qualifying wrestlers will share
approximately $11k.

Athlete Subsidies
Our fund-raising activities and merchandising makes it possible for the the club to provide
full or partial subsidies to cover registration fees, air fares, and accomodations. Anyone
wishing to receive a subsidy must first meet minimum membership criteria and only then
will the amount be calculated.
Because of 501c(4) restrictions, subsidies can only be paid by GGWC directly
to airlines, travel agents, Chicago Registration, Team SF uniforms, or Hotels.
Money cannot legally be given directly to GGWC members.
GGWC has already reserved/purchased 20 wrestling registrations, and
some of us have already purchased our own.
criteria:
- Time vested : The amount of participation in club practices, PR events and fund-raisers in
relation to the period of membership beginning January 1 2003 and ending March 31 2005.
- Financial need : We will have some athlete's defer or decline some or all of their allotted
subsidy. Therefore, we can make those funds available to athlete's in financial need.

Training
Training calendars and tournament preparation will be handled by Johnny.
Beginning February 17, all members must sign in on an attendance sheet to document
their presence at a scheduled practice. All athletes must have a minimum level of tournament
experience. This will include, but will not be limited to, the GGWC Memorial Day Tournament
in 2005 and/or 2006.
